Success Coach
Straight talk on sleep! If you want to put someone to sleep, read an article on sleeping. We all know how important sleep is. Why are we still talking about it? This issue is not about lack of knowledge. It is about lack of discipline and self-awareness. If you don’t sleep, you don’t feel good. It’s that simple.
In order to survive, your animal instincts guide you with a need for food, shelter and sleep. If you are tired and drained, your body is telling you something. Will you honor yourself enough to listen to what it is telling you or will you ignore the feedback you are receiving?
There is nothing more important than taking care of how you feel. You may ask, “how?” Make the decision that you will get the sleep you need and the answer will follow on how. If there is a medical reason or issue preventing you from getting good sleep you owe it to yourself to pursue additional assistance. Will this be another article you read and forget or will you make it the day that you drew a line in the sand and said, “I will honor myself and give me what I need”? Are you worth it? Only you can answer.
Success coaching can help you achieve the changes in your life you want to accomplish. The first step is your decision to change it.
Structural Chiropractor
The two reasons patients here at Structural Spinal Care commonly see improvements in sleep:
- Decreased pain = falling asleep faster and staying asleep throughout the night.
- The Brainstem has control centers for many basic human functions, including sleep, so when we get the pressure off the Brainstem, sleep can improve.
People who are in pain and having sleep difficulties will many times see sleep improve when we correct the reason for the pain.
Naturopathic Iridologist
For many people, there may be physiological weaknesses and deficiencies that can cause anything from having difficulty falling asleep some nights to chronic insomnia. Your body heals most effectively when you are sleeping so it is very important to get the right amount of rest. Studies have shown that people who sleep 7-8 hours regularly, live longer. Sleeping between the hours of 1 am to 5 am is needed for the liver to detox properly.
Sleep experts say that getting a good night’s rest starts when you wake up—consistency is key. Setting regular wake-up and bedtimes, even on your days’ off, helps keep the body on a schedule. Try turning off your electronic devices and LED lights at least 1 hour before bedtime to avoid melatonin (the sleep hormone) disruption.
The problem with sleeping pills, whether over-the-counter, herbal or prescription, is that they can only go so far (not to mention the possible side-effects). They do not correct the root cause and people typically find they need more and more to get to sleep and their sleep is not as restful as it should be.
Everyone, including babies older than 2 weeks old, should sleep straight through the night. If you find yourself unable to fall asleep from too much energy, this may indicate an adrenal weakness. If you have problems turning your mind off or are unable to dream or have disturbing dreams, you may have a weakness in your nervous system. Lastly, if you find you keep waking up in the night, even to use the bathroom, this typically indicates a Liver weakness. A weak thyroid or adrenals, depression or certain viruses can cause too much sleep which is also not good.
Take it from someone who suffered from serious insomnia for many years—there is nothing as wonderful as a good night’s sleep. Deficiencies and weaknesses can be nourished so that you too, can look forward to those amazing ZZZZ’S.
